Another goal I have for the rest of 2010 is to read 10 books. Now that I look at that, it seems like a lot! But school will be over soon, and I will have more time to read for fun! I recently finished reading End of the Spear by Steve Saint. It is the story of Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, and the other missionaries who were speared in Ecuador by the Auca indians. The story focuses on Steve's life, the son of the speared missionary. He and his own family eventually go to live with the very people that killed his father. The man who killed him becomes a father figure to Steve and a grandfather to Steve's children. The book speaks of the forgiveness that took place so the Gospel could be shared. The end of the book shares stories from when two of the Waodani (the new name of the Aucas) visit the Saint family in the United States. They were amazed at gocery stores, and that you could just take the food simply by handing a girl a plastic card that she hands right back! It was neat to see how the Waodani became like family. It's a long book, but I would recommend it. They have also made it into a movie, which I recently watched. Additionally, Beyond the Gates of Splender is about the same missionaries and their families. That movie is on my list to watch!
I really enjoy reading books based on true stories. Next on my list is Amish Grace about the shootings that occured in Nickle Mines, PA. If you have any suggestions for my summer reading list, please let me know!
